Abu Simbel Overnight Itinerary

Day 1 – Aswan to Abu Simbel and Sound and Light Show

1:00 PM – Hotel Pickup in Aswan

Your Abu Simbel overnight tour begins with pickup from your hotel or agreed meeting point in Aswan.

Meet your representative or driver and begin the journey south toward Abu Simbel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle.

The road passes through the desert landscapes of southern Egypt toward Lake Nasser.

1:15 PM – Depart Aswan

Leave Aswan and start the approximately 280–290 km journey toward Abu Simbel.

The drive normally takes around 3 to 4 hours depending on traffic, road conditions and stops.

Sit back and enjoy the changing landscape as you travel deeper into Nubia.

3:00 PM – Short Rest Stop

Stop briefly along the way when required.

Use the break for refreshments, stretching and preparing for the remainder of the drive.

The exact location and timing of the stop may vary.

4:30 PM – Arrive in Abu Simbel

Arrive in Abu Simbel in the late afternoon.

Unlike a conventional day trip, there is no need to rush directly through the temples before beginning the return journey.

Instead, continue to your selected Abu Simbel accommodation.

4:45 PM – Hotel Check-In

Check into your hotel and settle into your room.

Take some time to relax after the journey from Aswan.

Depending on your hotel location and season, you may also have time to enjoy the surrounding Nubian landscape or views around Lake Nasser.

5:30 PM – Free Time in Abu Simbel

Enjoy some personal time before the evening program.

You can relax at your hotel, have a drink or explore the surrounding area.

6:30 PM – Dinner

Enjoy dinner either at your hotel or a local restaurant according to your booked package.

Abu Simbel at Night

7:30 PM – Transfer to the Abu Simbel Temples

Leave your hotel and transfer toward the Abu Simbel temple complex.

Seeing Abu Simbel at night offers a very different atmosphere from a daytime visit.

As darkness falls over the desert and Lake Nasser, the illuminated temple façades create one of the most memorable evening scenes in southern Egypt.

Abu Simbel Sound and Light Show

8:00 PM – Sound and Light Show

Attend the Abu Simbel Sound and Light Show.

The show uses lighting, narration and visual effects to tell the story of Ramses II, Queen Nefertari and the construction of the temples.

It also introduces the remarkable story of how the monuments were relocated during the international campaign to protect Nubian heritage from the rising waters of Lake Nasser.

The evening setting gives the colossal statues and temple façades a dramatic appearance that cannot be experienced during a standard morning excursion.

Show schedules may change according to the season, attendance and official operating arrangements.

9:00 PM – End of the Show

After the performance, meet your driver and leave the temple area.

Depending on the confirmed performance time, this schedule may be adjusted.

9:15 PM – Return to Your Abu Simbel Accommodation

Transfer back to your hotel.

Relax after the show and enjoy the quiet atmosphere of Abu Simbel at night.

10:00 PM – Overnight in Abu Simbel

Spend the night at your selected hotel.

Day 2 – Abu Simbel Temples and Return to Aswan

6:30 AM – Breakfast

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast at your hotel.

An early start allows you to visit the temples before the hottest part of the day and gives you plenty of time to explore without rushing.

7:15 AM – Hotel Departure

Meet your private Egyptologist guide and transfer to the Abu Simbel temple complex.

7:30 AM – Arrive at Abu Simbel Temples

Begin your guided exploration of one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Egypt.

The complex contains two monumental rock-cut temples built during the reign of Ramses II.

Great Temple of Ramses II

7:40 AM – Visit the Great Temple

Start with the Great Temple of Ramses II.

Its façade is dominated by four enormous seated statues of the king.

Your Egyptologist will explain the history, architecture and religious significance of the temple as you explore its halls.

Inside, you will discover reliefs depicting Ramses II, religious ceremonies and scenes associated with his military achievements.

The temple was dedicated to Ramses II and the gods Amun-Ra, Ra-Horakhty and Ptah.

Temple of Nefertari

8:30 AM – Visit the Small Temple

Continue to the neighboring temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor.

The façade features monumental statues of Ramses II and Nefertari.

One of the remarkable aspects of the design is the prominence given to the queen.

Inside, your guide will explain the symbolism and decoration associated with Hathor and Nefertari.

9:15 AM – Free Time for Photos

After your guided tour, enjoy free time around the temple complex.

Take photos of the temples, Lake Nasser and the surrounding landscape.

Because you have stayed overnight, there is far less pressure to rush back to Aswan immediately after reaching the site.

9:45 AM – Visitor Area and Final Views

Spend a little more time around the visitor area before leaving Abu Simbel.

This is also a good opportunity to appreciate the enormous engineering achievement behind the relocation of the temples.

The two temples were moved in the 1960s during an international UNESCO-led rescue campaign after construction of the Aswan High Dam threatened the original location.

10:15 AM – Return to Hotel

Transfer back to your Abu Simbel accommodation.

10:30 AM – Check-Out

Collect your luggage and complete hotel check-out.

Prepare for the return journey to Aswan.

11:00 AM – Depart Abu Simbel for Aswan

Begin your private road transfer back to Aswan.

Relax in the air-conditioned vehicle while crossing the desert landscape of southern Egypt.

1:00 PM – Optional Rest Stop

A short rest stop can be made during the journey when required.

2:30 PM – 3:00 PM – Arrive in Aswan

Arrive back in Aswan and transfer to your hotel or agreed drop-off point.
